Today we're celebrating our first birthday. It's hard to believe it's been a year since we launched and what a creative year it's been.
To mark the occasion, we asked some of our champions and everyday artists to tell us about their creative year.
In December 2015 The Crafts Council launched a national celebration of clay. Jill Read from the Crafts Council told us all about Hey Clay!
"Our year of creativity was clay splattered and a lot of fun. Thousands of people unleashed their inner potter at Hey Clay! in December. Inspired by BBC’s Great Pottery Throw Down – seventy venues opened their doors to offer free pottery workshops. From two-year-olds having a go on a wheel (with assistance to reach the pedal) to three generations of one family making together. There were clay foxes in Sheffield, clay faces in Bath, raku firing in Stoke-on-Trent, clay pineapples in London, clay etch-a-sketch in Cornwall, clay tiles in Dorset, clay stomping in Cardiff, a waving clay community in Hebden Bridge, pinch pots, coil pots, thrown pots and at least one Ghost-inspired photograph at the wheel. Hey Clay! proved you’re never too young and you’re never too old to take up a new skill and get creative."
